… This paper explores how data collection and behavioral prediction impact consumers’ ecosystems and potential existing solutions for situations where the goals of the consumer diverge from those of the platform. In addition, this paper is intended to spur further scholarship into possible solutions to this narrow concern. After laying the foundation, this paper lays out attempted solutions by each branch of government. This paper concludes that the United States Government should foster new entrants to the market and, most importantly, require platforms to give users a level of control over their own algorithms.
