Legal systems across the world recognise the fundamental equality of all human beings and promise equality before the law and the equal protection of law. However, inequalities in accessing and enjoying resources, services and opportunities persist on the grounds of gender, nationality, religion, ideological, political beliefs and so on. They persist at different levels, such as in the global North/South context, or within countries and societies.
