Matteo Maria Cati, ‘Conflicting Choices’

ABSTRACT
Societies in many and different circumstances make choices that can be considered as conflicting ones, as Guido Calabresi has pointed out, together with Phillip Bobbit, in their ‘Tragic Choices’ (1978). The subsequent vast literature has tackled the topic from different perspectives and more recently Calabresi (2016a) has underlined that governments when dealing with such choices have to take into account seriously the moral negative externalities that may originate from the taken conflicting decisions. This paper tries to unravel the skein and to suggest possible solutions.
